When it comes to what people call “Mexican” food, there are really two completely separate categories. On one hand, you’ve got the Americanized stuff—Tex-Mex, California Mexican, gringo Mexican, whatever you want to call it. This is your Taco Bell, your burritos the size of your head, and your chicken fajitas with a gigantic strawberry margarita. There’s nothing at all wrong with Americanized Mexican food, but it’s not quite the same thing as Mexican Mexican food. Yes, it’s delicious (especially when you’re drunk), and yes, it’s perfect for purchasing cheaply and spending the night in the basement with a two-liter Mountain Dew and a few Xbox games, but it’s not the same thing. Sometimes I want to eat ground beef in a hard taco shell piled with lettuce, but other times I’m in the mood for the real stuff. Tortas, lengua, and pozole. Real Mexican food, not the (admittedly delicious) bastardized interpretation of it that is so often passed off as authentic. And porn is the same thing. I’d be lying if I said I’ve never masturbated to a porn video produced in a Los Angeles studio featuring a Mexican-American girl whose connection to the country doesn’t go beyond the fact that she keeps saying “Papi” while she’s getting fucked. And again, I like this kind of stuff. I’ve probably jerked off to that video, in particular, fifteen or twenty times (this month), so don’t get me wrong. But just like with food, there’s something different about authentic porn. Especially authentic professional porn, because it’s so hard to find. Mexican amateur porn is a peso a dozen online, but finding videos made in Mexico using Mexican porn stars is pretty tough to find. In fact, before I stumbled upon SexMex, I didn’t even know it existed. The first thing that tipped me off was the fact that the page to sign up was bilingual: just like you can tell if a restaurant is going to be authentic based on the number of Mexican customers there, I knew this site would be good when they told me that the first step to signing up was to “escribe un nombre de usuario” (to enter a username).

Paying Your Pesos

I was admittedly a little put off by the price, though. Mexican food is always cheap, so I’d expected SexMex to be the same. Imagine my shock when a one-month (uno mes) subscription was thirty dollars, which is about as high as I’ve seen a single porn site charge. Things do get substantially cheaper over the longer subscription terms, though. Joining for two months at a time will only cut a few dollars off of your total cost, but things start to get significantly cheaper when looking at subscriptions over six months. If you pay for a year (uno año) you’ll be paying less than a third of what you would by staying month-to-month, so if you want to save some of your porn money to use on tacos I’d recommend making that commitment. On top of your standard credit card payment options, they let you pay by bank transfer or Western Union. You can even pay in pesos if you really need to. I even went ahead and checked the current exchange rates, and I’m proud to report that they’re not giving their Mexican brethren a discount—the prices in pesos are roughly equivalent to what they charge in American dollars. You should also take into account the fact that your SexMex membership gives you access to exclusive discounts to a whole bunch of other porn sites. If you’re like me you probably subscribe to a handful anyways, so paying a bit extra to get into SexMex might be a little more digestible if it’ll help you save elsewhere. They’ve got hundreds of reduced prices on porn sites of all types (not just Mexican), but the real draw for me is the daily deal. While the typical stuff normally ranges at around twenty to fifty percent off, each day they host a single featured deal that lets you join a porn site at a discounted price between seventy-five and ninety percent off. Sometimes the deal is so good that I can’t pass it up, even though I’m already juggling ten or fifteen other porn sites. Oh well. One more can’t hurt, even if my doctor says I’m masturbating so often that the rash on my dick might become permanent.

Crossing The Border

Thankfully, my doubts about the value of SexMex disappeared pretty much immediately after entering the members’ area of the site. This isn’t some cheap, quickly thrown together porn site—it’s professionally made on the same standards as any top-quality American porn producer. At least a few times a week there is a new, full-length, incredibly hot video produced and uploaded to SexMex, and when that happens it’ll appear right up front on the Latest Updates section that greets you when you enter the site. The next section you’ll see when you scroll down a bit probably won’t be too useful to you yet, but if you’re like me you’ll learn to love it. It lists each of the sites models, and lets you click through to see all of their videos. The problem I had initially was that I was unfamiliar with the domestic Mexican porn industry, so none of these names meant anything to me: you won’t see Sasha Grey or Asa Akira or any of the other big names you know and love. But, after a few long days studying the site (for the purposes of this review, of course), I’ve come to know and love these girls. But, hey, even if you’re not there, you could always just skim through the gallery, find a cutie, and then watch her get fucked. It’s like a meat market, except… I need to stop this analogy before I get in trouble. Click “Scenes” up top to get access to all of the videos SexMex has to offer. By default, you’ll see exactly what you did on the front page, but here you can also sort by most popular videos, or switch to an alphabetical search. I’m not sure why you would want to see a list of the videos from A-Z, but I suppose more options are never a bad thing. The sorting functions are fairly limited: you can’t sort by length, or adjust the time-frame of your sort, or filter it at all. Thankfully, this isn’t a major issue due to how robust the next navigation option is: the tags tab. The tags offered by SexMex really hit every major area that a person could want in porn. They’ve got tags based on body type (“Thin & Nice Tits,” “Small Tits,” “Big Tits”), age (“Teen” and “MILF”), as well as a variety of situational tags (“Firsttimers,” “Gang Bang,” and “Squirt.”). Basically, if it’s something sexual involving a Mexican woman, SexMex’s tags will allow you to find it quickly and easily. Plus, once you’re within each tag, you can sort using all of the same functions as you can for the site as a whole. So if you want the most recent gangbangs, the best gangbangs, or… the gangbangs with titles highest in the alphabet (?), you can do that too.

The Language Barrier

Really the only drawback to SexMex is what made me attracted to it in the first place. As one would expect of porn made by Mexicans and for Mexicans, the videos are all in Spanish. The navigation of the site is translated perfectly, as are the video titles, but once you’re actually watching the porn you won’t hear a word of English. On the plus side, the videos all have subtitles, and they seem to be fairly well-written, but that doesn’t really solve the problem. I listen to porn to hear the desperately horny tone of voice when the girls are saying slutty stuff, and that doesn’t really come across in subtitles. Sure, I can follow along with the plot well enough, but if that’s what I was looking for I’d just read erotic literature. Oh well. I guess I could learn Spanish, but if the porn has subtitles and I can just point at what I want on the menus, I don’t see much of a point.
